About Keefer’s Island

Keefer’s Island spans 1.85 acres and is situated about ¼ mile south (downstream) from John’s Hole, a cut in the Snake River. It was named after Fred W. Keefer, a notable member of a prominent family in the early history of Idaho Falls. In the 1930’s, Keefer filed a mining claim on the island and built a small cabin there, which still stands today.

Keefer’s Island Tours are made possible by the Snake River Ferry & Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation.

This tour requires good mobility for navigating uneven terrain and getting on and off the ferry.

Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
