Pets of Downtown

Thank You for an Incredible Season!

The Pets of Downtown mural project has been completed for the 2026 season. Thank you to everyone who participated by honoring their beloved pets and helping bring this unique public art installation to life.

This collaborative project between Idaho Falls Downtown Development and the Snake River Animal Shelter has created a lasting tribute to the special bond between people and their pets while adding another vibrant piece of public art to downtown Idaho Falls.

About the Project & The Artist

This unique downtown initiative is a proud partnership between Idaho Falls Downtown Development and the Snake River Animal Shelter, our local nonprofit 501(c)(3) no-kill pet rescue organization.

To bring this vision to life, we partnered with Marina Zavalova, an incredible, world-class local artist who has recreated stunning, vibrant portraits of our community's beloved pets.

  • The Artist’s Journey: Born in Moscow, Russia, Marina graduated with a master’s degree from The Textile Institute of Art in Moscow in 1981, working as a professional colorist, textile designer, and commercial artist.

  • An Idaho Falls Staple: After emigrating to the United States in 1990, Marina settled right here in Idaho Falls with her husband Vladimir (also an artist) and their three children. By 1993, her highly colorful, bold Impressionist landscape paintings and portraits were featured in galleries across the country. Today, she continues to inspire our community through her artwork, classes, and workshops.
