Paddy’s Day on Park: Idaho Falls’ Living Room Comes Alive March 14
By Kerry Hammon, Executive Director, Idaho Falls Downtown Development
Every March, the world pauses—if only for a moment—to celebrate a story of movement and resilience. St. Patrick’s Day is, at its heart, about honoring where we come from while welcoming what’s new. Here in Idaho Falls, that spirit has always felt familiar. Maybe it’s because our downtown was built by people who carried their own traditions across oceans and prairies. Or maybe it’s because these few blocks have always been the place where strangers become neighbors.
This year, on March 14, we invite you to gather in our city’s living room as we bring Paddy’s Day on Park back to Park Avenue—a celebration of heritage and community. IFDDC-hosted events are more than a place to gather and listen to great music; they’re a shared experience that reminds us why these streets matter.
Historic downtown has always spoken its own language. You hear it in the echoes coming from walls built from lava rock. You see it in the way late‑winter light warms a century‑old façade. You smell it in fresh bread drifting from doorways and in coffee brewed by someone who remembers your last order.
What to Expect
On Paddy’s Day, those senses sharpen. You’ll hear the Idaho Falls Firefighter’s Pipes & Drums as they continue their traditional March‑in‑March. and trust us, you don’t want to miss the energy when those drums hit downtown! Your donations to the band help them purchase the gear and supplies that make their iconic sound possible. (Follow IFFD Pipes and Drums on their socials for March‑in‑March details.)
You’ll see families, friends, and newcomers weaving their way through a downtown district built long before any of us arrived—but still gracious enough to welcome each new generation. Our restaurants and bars will open their doors and come out on the sidewalks, our downtown residents will join the fun, and the street itself will take on that lively, unmistakable hum of people choosing to spend an afternoon together.
Attendees can expect festive music from Satin Steel and Mountain Thyme, local food and drink, downtown shopping, and community connection.
Guests are encouraged to wear green, dress for the weather, and prepare for a lively afternoon in Idaho Falls’ favorite gathering space. Need ideas for attire? Stop by our storefronts!
Highlights include:
- The event runs 3–7 PM on Park Avenue—rain, shine, or our signature Idaho Falls wind.
- Motorists are asked to move all vehicles off Park Avenue, between Broadway and A Street, by 8:00 AM, Saturday, March 14 for event set-up. If vehicles are not moved, they will either be towed around the block or become part of the event until 9:00 PM.
- Downtown parking, including ADA parking locations.
- IFDDC’s volunteers will check IDs and provide wristbands at the entry points for anyone wishing to purchase alcohol. Water and soda will be sold outside at the IFDDC tent or inside establishments.
- Downtown restaurants and bars will serve a selection of beer as they interact with guests outside. Liquor MUST be purchased and consumed inside downtown establishments. No alcohol is permitted outside of the event boundaries.
- A stop by IFFD Pipes & Drums during their annual March‑in‑March. (Follow them on social media for details.)
- A new Plinko Board Fundraiser will make its debut—details coming soon.
- Bob's Indoor Golf will provide cornhole.
- And for those who enjoy a challenge: Purchase at least two green items from downtown shops and dine downtown (brunch, lunch, or dinner). Ideas live on our website.
- Guests are encouraged to show off their green treasures and Paddy’s Day spirit on social media, tagging bars, restaurants, storefronts and/or Idaho Falls Downtown Development. Shared experiences translate into more commerce.
- If you’re unable to attend any of IFDDC-hosted annual events, we encourage you to consider donating to IFDDC.
- If you’d like to be part of the team that keeps our city’s living room vibrant, you can now sign up to volunteer directly on our website under the Community tab. If online signups are unavailable, that just means the spots have been claimed—but we host 15 events a year, and every one of them needs neighbors like you. We will add more volunteer opportunities to our website in the coming months.
Arriving—and Leaving—Safely
Part of honoring tradition is honoring one another. Please drink responsibly, show kindness, and if your celebration includes a drink, please plan for a safe ride home. GIFT On‑Demand offers an easy option, and designated drivers are one of the greatest unsung heroes of these gatherings. Nothing is more important than getting home safely to the people who love you. GIFT hours: Sat 7 a.m.–11 p.m.
Why Your Presence Matters
Why come? IFDDC is a nonprofit—small but mighty, deeply committed, and fueled by the belief that downtown belongs to everyone. The Business Improvement District and parking operations keep the basics running. But the things that make downtown extraordinary—beautification, decorative lighting, arts & culture, and events like this one—happen because our community invests in them.
These enhancements preserve the district’s history while keeping it relevant, inviting, and vibrant for residents and visitors alike. Those unable to attend can still support by donating or inquiring about sponsorship opportunities or by contacting at info@downtownidahofalls or (208) 535-0399. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
So come raise a glass, cheer on firefighters, stand in a place where heritage is honored, new memories are made, and the past and present meet with a node and a warm smile.
