IFDDC Unveils Revival of the Downtown Pet Mural Program

The Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation (IFDDC) is proud to announce the completion of the Downtown Pet Mural, a vibrant public art installation celebrating beloved pets, community spirit, and local partnerships.

Community members, sponsors, stakeholders, the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce and supporters attended the official ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at 343 Park Avenue in Downtown Idaho Falls.

Located on the north wall of BlackRock Fine Wine & Craft Beer in the alley off Park Avenue, the mural features dozens of locally loved pets painted by Idaho Falls artist Marina Zavalova. The project began in June and offered pet owners the opportunity to honor and memorialize their furry companions through custom painted portraits.

Inspired by the renowned Dogs of Del Ray mural in Del Ray, Virginia, the Idaho Falls mural welcomes all pets. Rescue animals are specially recognized with a painted heart incorporated into their portrait, highlighting the important role of pet adoption within the community.

A $250 donation secured each pet’s portrait placement for a three-year term. Of each portrait sponsorship, $50 was donated directly to the Snake River Animal Shelter. Remaining funds support mural maintenance and compensate the artist for her work. The mural’s title was painted by Jesse Mendoza of Dynamic Painting LLC.

“This project is a wonderful example of how public art can bring people together while celebrating the unique stories that make our community special,” said Kerry Hammon, Executive Director of the Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation. “The Downtown Pet Mural honors the pets that enrich our lives, supports a valued local nonprofit, and creates a colorful destination that adds vibrancy and character to our historic downtown.”

The project was made possible through the collaboration of the Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation (a not-for-profit organization), Snake River Animal Shelter, local businesses, donors, and community sponsors.

“This collaboration is an incredible way to invest in our historic downtown, honor the pets that have added so much to our lives and highlight the rescued critters throughout our community,” said Michelle Ziel-Dingman, Executive Director of Snake River Animal Shelter. “We are honored that such an incredible artist will be providing the artwork in this unique opportunity to support our community’s no-kill, nonprofit animal rescue.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony will provide an opportunity for attendees to view the completed mural, meet project partners, and celebrate a community-driven effort that combines public art, philanthropy, and downtown revitalization.
